Find out how long it takes to read or speak your text — perfect for blog posts, articles and scripts.

About the Reading Time Calculator

Our free reading time calculator estimates how long your text takes to read or speak aloud. Bloggers use it to label articles ("5 min read" boosts engagement), speakers use it to rehearse within their time slot, and writers use it to sanity-check draft length.

How to Use It

  1. Paste your article or script into the box.
  2. Adjust Reading speed if you like (default 200 WPM).
  3. See live results: Words, Reading time and Speaking time.

How Is It Calculated?

  • Reading time: words ÷ your WPM setting (default 200, the average adult reading speed).
  • Speaking time: words ÷ 150 WPM, the average conversational speaking pace.
